For Community
For Spirit
For History
For the Future... For
the Kingdom of God
| There is a time for everything and this is the time for
repairing and restoring our historic church and building a Fellowship Hall for
expanded work and activities. In this brochure we share with you the endeavors
of a dedicated Board, Building Committee, and Capital Campaign Committee. The
gifts of many members of our community are reflected, as well as the gift from
the Colorado Historical Society which made the thorough assessment of our National
Historic Register building possible. For all of the time and talent given to date
- - thank you. |
BACKGROUND - - A PLAN
The Marble Community Church has grown over the last two decades
in a modern rebirth of a church whose roots go back to the turn of the last century.
Services have increased, membership has grown, and activities using the building
have expanded. In 2001, in addition to the weekly Sunday and holiday services,
the church was home to summer Catholic services, community potluck dinners and
presentations, the annual Vacation Bible School, a new teen program, concerts,
September 11th memorial, and, of course, the weddings, funerals, and baptisms
that highlight the lives of both our members and visitors who choose this special
mountain setting as an idyllic place to mark their personal histories.
As the use of our building increases, we have become increasingly
aware of the physical limitations of the space, and perhaps of greater concern,
the serious structural deficiencies of a building which is 114 years old. The
Board decided that we could not shore up the foundation, or fix the heat, or bolster
a sagging wall, or build a Fellowship Hall in incremental steps. Each component
impacted the next. A full plan was needed in order to allow us to make good decisions
and make wise improvements that would be there for future generations in the Crystal
Valley. The plan allows us to prepare for the future with new space in a Fellowship
Hall (on the site of the church's original Boy's Club), while honoring the past
with a full restoration of the church building. The new space which relies heavily
on the "barn raising" spirit of the west and a lot of community volunteers
becomes a temporary home for the congregation while the serious and highly technical
historic restoration and renovation is done to the historic building.
